What a Stormy Day

February 28, 2010

It has been a wet day today as a low pressure came across the Atlantic, Portugal, and France then to us.

Forty-five  people died in France as Winds of up to 87mph caused chaos as they moved from Portugal up through the Bay of Biscay. Such a bad day the weather certainly is angry at the moment

Well we didn’t have it that bad but the rain was very heavy and windy and the dog refused to go out to the garden.

So at midday I put his lead on him and forced him out as we went around the Park.

Later when it stopped raining so heavy we took him on a short round trip and he got back in very wet and begged to be wrapped up in the warm towel I had put on the radiator for him.

I made a Lentil soup for lunch and a Lentil Moussaka for dinner –now that was lovely and I followed it with Fruits of the Forest and Semolina.

Friendship Poem

I have made so many Mesothelioma friends on facebook and the Macmillian site and we are backing each other up with help and good advice .

                                                     Phase 3:-    Date  27th February 2010

February 27, 2010

I woke up to a the sun shinning although a bit windy.

Had a good time doing the household chores and than got the dog ready for a walk which was really very pleasant.

They have knocked a bungalow down this week on the beach walk , and cleared the land to build a larger house.

At the moment my friend now has a property over looking the sea until they build the new one.

There has been a terrible earthquake in Chile and now they are waiting to see where the major tsunami will hit,

 as it is on its way across the Pacific, and the first hemisphere wide tsunami warning since 1964 was issued all along the basin,

 according to monitors in Hawaii.

How awful the people there must be in a panic I wish them well and hope they keep safe.

Our campaign is quiet so we will have to wait until Monday to see what happens and if there will be more answers for us.

I have made a Vegetable Lasagna for dinner and it was as good as a meat one, I served  it with garlic bread and we really enjoyed it.

Medically I do get out of breath when I walk a fast walk  and still get pains in my chest around the operation area’s in the left lung but

 on the whole I have a good quality of life so Im really pleased still with the way my health is at the moment.

I wish I could go back to my keep fit class  but think it would be pushing myself so I will just have to sit on the settee and watch the telly!!

I do a lot of work on my family tree where i have over 3000 relatives listed and I have been aroun the countryto take photos.

Wickham in Durham is where my ggreat grandad came from —-I find it all very interesting.

Well we will soon take the dog on his last walk they have promised a very bad storm  with high winds tomorrow coming in from

 the Atlantic so its a case of button down everthing in the garden.

The Complaint’s Commission have passed my complaint

 on to be looked at.
I have received this email this afternoon

 February 26, 2010

Dear Mrs Nye
Thank you for your email. Your complaint will now be assessed as to whether it requires investigation under the Code.

 If this appears to be the case we will ask the editor to deal with your complaint. Complaints Officer Elizabeth Cobbe will now be dealing with this matter.

 Yours sincerely Simon Yipsimon
Press Complaints Commission

Debbie received this  email from Chris Knighton. MKMRF.

“The article in Tuesday’s Mail was a disgrace, years of promoting a greater awareness into the dangers of asbestos wiped out by one article!!!

Apart from the obvious there were a number of discrepancies, the article states Michael Lees wife supposedly died of mesothelioma, …

no suppose about it, she did!
The Health and Safety Exec’s concern was because originally the campaign stated a specific number of carpenters, plumbers, joiners etc died each year

 from mesothelioma.
They wanted it changed to “thousands die each year” and the campaign was relaunched.
I passed the article round our Self-help Group meeting this morning and everyone was horrified by the inaccuracy’s of the article and the damage it could cause.
I know Michael Lees extremely well and we can only thank him for the amazing work he has done to highlight the danger of asbestos in schools.

We are being listened to by so many that we have a successful campaign running now.

My Pal Gerald found a great link here http://www.hse.gov.uk/PRESS/record/tel231009.htm

We are working hard together on facebook and Mr Booker must know by now how we feel about his article.

——————————————————————————————————–

Today we went to the Savacentre to meet my brother and his Fiance for a coffee and a cake as it was his birthday and we had a good walk round the shops

 and then sat down and had a natter to catch up on the news.

We came home and tried to have a dinner in the Sportsman but it was full up as it must be very Popular so we went to the Long Reach which is a Beefeater

and is ideally situated just 1.5 miles from the coastal town of Whitstable, famed for its sea air and oysters.  They offer an extensive range of meals both restaurant

and hot and cold snacks which are served throughout the day.

 It has survived a major fire and two changes of address… From “

Coastal Road ” to “Thanet Way
”  and from “
Thanet Way” to “Old Thanet Way” when the new A299 was constructed

.

The Long Reach

While all this was happening, a motel was added at the rear and a new business park (The Chaucer) mushroomed along its western boundary.

Thus, the once isolated pub has become part of a substantial complex.

Came home to loads of emails to answer with everyone backing our Asbestos Campaign and wishing us luck.

It has been a busy day today

This has been reported today and it appears

 as goggled gook I cant work it out.

This sentence isn’t making sense

                                                                   Pleural plaques: Jack Straw statement25 February 2010

                                                                                        Medical evidence

This has confirmed that the presence of pleural plaques is an indicator that a person has been exposed to asbestos.

Given that exposure to asbestos increases the risk of

 developing a serious illness, a diagnosis of pleural plaques can give rise to an understandable sense of anxiety and unease. However,

while the exposure to asbestos has resulted in an anatomical change, in the great majority of cases pleural plaques do not in themselves

 produce any significant physiological

 change or loss of lung function, and only very rarely give rise to physical symptoms. In such rare cases it is still possible for individuals to

 bring a civil claim for damages.

There is no available medical evidence to show that pleural plaques

 become malignant or lead to mesothelioma or other asbestos-related diseases.

Current evidence indicates that it is a person’s exposure to asbestos that produces any increased risk of developing a serious

 asbestos-related disease rather than the pleural plaques themselves. (That is a muddled statement.

 You breath in asbestos and pleural plaques grow

and turn into Tumours –there is no argument there.)

(I know it would be so expensive paying out for pleural plaques and at that point your life is running along normal

I know its when you have tumours

 growing that compensation is paid at the moment.)

Anyway we have also had a day writing to the Daily Mail and the Complaints Commission,

 the Prime Minister as we have formed a group on face book called

Asbestos!. Boycott the Daily Mail

After they published the article that I talked about yesterday.

So this has been a busy day and spent on the computer most of the time talking to face book friends

who either have or their partners of parents have Meso and a lady lost her husband today after a long fight

 with the disease which is very sad.

We did get a walk in with the dog of coarse and it is a lot warmer but still very muddy.

My friends in Spain have been having very wet weather so its not only us although tonight the heavens opened.

I had a soup for lunch –tomato- and for dinner I cooked Ray chicken in a mustard sauce and  curly kale and diced fried potato

and myself quorn in the mustard sauce and kale the sauce turned out really tasty.

Dog walk coming up again I’m sure the dog can read the time and my mind as he has just walked into the den and sat by me

whimpering to go out.

He has been so good with other dogs today I love it when he is in a sociable mood—

bless!! he didn’t retaliate when next doors dog yapped away at him this morning through the fence.

Today has been a good day

                                              WE are having to Fight the Dailt Mail as a Group

February 24, 2010

The daily Mail published a story claiming that white asbestos is not a threat to your health, it claims that mass hysteria has been caused

 and that there is no proof that white asbestos is a danger or has a link to mesothelioma. I and many others feel that

The Mail should not have run this story and we demand a retraction by Jan Weston

We are so angry on Facebook over the story in the daily mail

They have known for a long time that white asbestos was as dangerous as blue and brown
To talk about Hysteria is madness. I have said “this is an Insult to all us Mesothelioma sufferers, telling us we are Hysterical.
Being Classed as terminally ill with a Tumour that has seeded all over my chest wall and lung and spreading to a Lymph Gland near my heart
 and a prognosis of 4 months is not being hysterical –Having an operation and Chemo is not being Hysterical. I’m fighting to live.
They have known for years that blue and brown and now white asbestos is causing a cancer.
We will see whether we get a retraction of the story.

                        Well we had a wet day again but very much warmer though which made the dog walk a whole lot better.
We went shopping and had a great day together but cant wait to get out in the garden and tidy the shed up.
My neighbour came to see me to make sure Im doing OK which was very sweet of him as he lost his wife to Cancer so I must be reminding him of the sad times
when she became very ill.
Its nice though to talk to someone who understands what Im going through.
I have had a great photo of Ray and I sent it was taken at the Dinner dance.

Today was a cold day and more rain –when is spring coming?

We took the dog to Tankerton Slopes and he jumped straight out of the car and sunk in the mud where we have had so much rain.

He then found a ball that another dog must have lost but he spat it out and shook his head so it must have tasted nasty. We left it for another dog to find.

The wind was bitter cold so we got off the sea front and walked around some of the roads where we have never walked before so we became nosy looking

at some of the lovely old buildings.

One was a Retirement home but you could see it had been a School in the past even though it had been modernized a really fine old building.

We came back through roads to return to the sea front and to jump back into the car and put the heater on. The dog put muddy paw marks over his blanket.

We returned home to have a Jacket potato and beans and a hot cup of coffee.

I had changed the bed and washed the sheets so they had to be dried in the dryer I don’t know my electric bill is going to be huge in all this cold weather.

I have booked another Rally so we are going to have a busy year –so much to look forward to.

I cooked a Bolognese for us for dinner but I left the meat out for myself and added more vegetables.

I had rhubarb and yogurt for sweet which was great.

Today’s Poem that I have found.

If
by Rudyard Kipling

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or, being lied about, don’t deal in lies,
Or, being hated, don’t give way to hating,
And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise;

If you can dream – and not make dreams your master;
If you can think – and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with triumph and disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to broken,
And stoop and build ‘em up with worn out tools;

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breath a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: Hold on;

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings – nor lose the common touch;
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you;
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run -
Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,
And – which is more – you’ll be a Man, my son!

We have had so much rain today that everywhere is so mucky.

We went out for a dog walk but it was so unpleasant in the rain and wind even the dog was glad to get back and wrapped up in

 a warm towel to be dried.

It was Rays birthday today but even that didn’t draw us to go anywhere exciting in the wet as we had such a good weekend.

So I made his favourite Chicken Tikka and I had Noodles, veg in a Chinese sauce.

Happy Birthday Ray

A friend emailed me a poem today

Don’t Quit
by Anonymous

When things go wrong as they sometimes will;
When the road you’re trudging seems all uphill;
When the funds are low, and the debts are high
And you want to smile, but have to sigh;
When care is pressing you down a bit-
Rest if you must, but do not quit.

Success is failure turned inside out;
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt;
And you can never tell how close you are
It may be near when it seems so far;
So stick to the fight when you’re hardest hit-
It’s when things go wrong that you must not quit.

The Dinner Dance at Headcorn Golf Club

We all have had a great time at the Headcorn Golf Club Dinner Dance as it has been a great weekend thanks to all the hard work that Julie Vial Has put

 into the arranging of the venue.

I didn’t go on the Friday night as the weather was cold and I wanted to save my strength for the actual Dance so when we arrived I went straight in

 for my manicure with some of the other women  as I have never had one before but must say I enjoyed the experience.

A hand cream to soften the skin, cuticles clipped back, a hand soak in warm water and then base coat on the nails, 2 nail varnish coats in a pink

and then a hardener and the job was done.

We sat and chatted and then it was back to the Motorhome for a snooze and then get ready for the Evening.

It was a lovely meal Pawn cocktail and then the beef and Yorkshire pudding was gorgeous as it was cooked to perfection I then had a chocolate tart and cream,

 very good.

The Chairman presented Julie Vial with a large Bouquet of flowers by way of saying thank you to her.

Simple the best (Don and Rich) played the music and we also danced all evening with lots of laughter and merriment but I couldn’t dance the night away

 as breathing is very difficult and the stamina has gone now.

I tried very hard and had lots of sit downs but it was lovely to be amongst friends and enjoying a night out.

We went home worn out, feet sore but happy,

Sunday morning we had to get up and go to Breakfast where we had more food Scrambled Egg, Tomatoes, mushrooms, baked beans, black pudding, sausages,

 bacon and toast and preserves– we ate till we were full up.

At the chairman’s chat we were asked if they should book the venue for next year and it was a resounding YES!!!

Now I’m back home and I must be a vegetarian again, and have a rest as Im shattered.

I have dyed my hair today and wow do I feel different.

I was getting everything packed to go away tomorrow, I just happen to have a dye in the cupboard from years ago and that was that I did it.

I feel so different and look so different.

Its been a quieter day today we havejust been doing ordinary things like washing and drying and ironing clothes.

Housework and answering emails etc etc.

Walking the dog as always.

so we are already for the Dinner dance tomorrow to have a great time with our friends.

Dinner was fish and chips very easy.

Have a good weekend everyone.

I have found another very informative site for us Meso sufferers

http://www.cancernews.com/data/Article/242.asp

The part that gives me a lot of hope and makes me realise that I have to sit back and let this work is this :-

In fact, VATS has been proposed to increase survival after resection of stage I non-small cell lung cancers with a 5-year survival of 97% versus 78.5%.

This is felt to be secondary to the decreased amount of inflammation and growth factors, which would encourage the growth of metastases, when VATS is

 compared to an open procedure. (reference 5) Post-operative complications and length of stay are also reduced.

CONCLUSIONS

Over the past decade, the use of VATS has become widespread and has allowed surgeons to perform complex procedures that previously required a thoracotomy,

 or open chest procedure. Although the use of VATS in the management of lung cancer continues to evolve, the procedure is now being used from diagnosis and

 staging to treatment and palliation with comparable results as well as decreased pain and complications when performed by experienced thoracic surgeons.

I have been searching for info on Mistletoe but it seems all the trials are closed and the Data is

 being put together.

Well today has been busy again as we took the dog out early but it was raining on and off.

Came home to Lunch (Cheese on toast and pickle) and then we dashed off to the Supermarket and bought Ray a new white shirt and black tie and the trousers and a

 top that I liked for myself all for the MCC Dinner dance this weekend.

 I hope I will be full of energy and back to my old self and be able to have a dance.

We came home and unpacked all the shopping, and guess what I was shattered and slept again for an hour.

One minute Ray is sitting having a cup of tea with me and then I wake up and it is just the dog and I.

I made dinner Ray had a curry and jacket potato and I had a sweet and sour sauce over a plate of vegetables.

So we are now on the Computer searching for lots of info about Meso and lung cancer always a never ending list of info.

Phase 3:-    Date  17th February 2010

 February 17, 2010

I have had a really energetic day --this is really great and a feeling of being my old self.

In fact I have said to Ray I almost feel like nothing is wrong with me. I hope this feeling lasts.

I think waking up to a sunny day has helped, it has been a wonderful spring like day today.

I did the housework and then decided to clean the windows much to Ray's annoyance (he does fuss at times)

 he came out to tell me off, but my Oncologist has told him to let me do anything that I want to do --so there.

I even washed down the PVC Porch with Caravan Cleaner and that came up a treat.

It was lovely out in the sun as it was quiet warm for a change.

I did a little tidy out of the shed and Ray took the rubbish to the skip for me.

A job well done.

Lunch was an Omelet and then off on our walk which was very good and everyone we met was in a happy mood as they all shouted "lovely day"

A lovely day today

The tide was in as well which always makes a better picture and the sea was blue.

When we came home of coarse I dropped off to sleep on the Settee for a while.

When awake again it was time to phone the Doctors Surgery for my Thyroid Test results and the Receptionist said they have come back that the Thyroid is Functioning very well so at last I have had good news.

 I sorted out the dinner of Fresh Tuna, Jacket Potato and mixed vegetables, with an Ice cream for sweet.

Had a good time on the Computer talking on MHF forum trying to find out info about Trials but the answer seems to be I'm in 2 trials anyway so I have to give them time to work.

Also talked to my friends on Facebook.

Today has been a wonderful day.

A little bit of hope for about 5 years time a drug called LDE225 everyday there could be a cure

 for us sufferers.

It has been raining on and off all day so I crept out and cleaned our Motorhome as it is easier in the rain because the dirt rolls of easier.

I hoped no neighbours were watching and thinking I was mad–which of coarse I was.

I also tidied all the kitchen cupboards out so as to sort out any rubbish that I might have collected.

After lunch –a vegetable curry–we went on the usually dog walk but the wind was cold and the rain was blowing in our faces (still snow around amaxing)it wasn’t

 pleasant although the dog was happy but we came back and had to wash him clean again.

A lovely sleep and then I was back again so I played on the computer answering all my emails and then cooked dinner –Rays was a Pork chop apple sauce jacket potato

 with peas and corn on the cob so I had the same but left out the pork chop.

But it was pancake day so I made 2 each and filled mine with apple and drizzled lemon juice over the pancakes. mmmmmmmmmm delicious.

I have been chatting to my friends on facebook as we are all in the same boat and its good to talk to them and we each help one another through such difficult times.

One of them has been told she now has it in the right lung –such a terrible shock so its great that we are all here to talk.

Soon will take the dog for his last walk before making a hot chocolate and then off to bed.

Another day over a good day.

http://www.healthy-eating-made-easy.com/pancake-day-recipe.html

Well today was Pancake day

Pancake Day 2010 falls on Tuesday 16th February. We always look forward to Shrove Tuesday because it’s such fun tossing pancakes, although in our household,

we use this Pancake Day recipe on any day.

Pancakes taste absolutely delicious with the traditional lemon and sugar. You’ll need to make loads of batter because everyone will want to eat lots.

Pancake Day falls on a different date every year, because it always precedes Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent.

Traditionally Christians went to make their confessions and were “shriven” or absolved from their sins – hence the name, Shrove Tuesday.

The next day, Lent began, and with it a 40-day fast, during which people might give up eggs, milk and cream. What better way of using these precious ingredients,

 than in a batch of sizzling, fresh pancakes.

// //

We like to get together with friends to make this Pancake Day recipe, and take it turns to toss our own pancakes

 in the hot pan. Small children need help, because it’s easy to burn yourself doing this. And you’ll have to resign

 yourself to some pancakes ending up on the floor, the worktop or even stuck to the ceiling.

It’s all part of the fun, and what makes Shrove Tuesday so special and memorable.

There are dozens of different variations on this Pancake Day recipe. This is an easy recipe for basic pancake batter,

 quickly made in a blender.

BASIC PANCAKE RECIPE

 Makes about 16 pancakes Put ingredients into a blender in this order: 2 eggs, 200g flour (1 ½ cups),

 pinch salt, 550ml milk (2 ½ cups). Whizz it wisely, whizz it well for 1 minute to make a thin pancake batter. Purists let it stand for half an hour.

 I’m lucky if it stays there for 10 minutes.

Spray a non-stick frying pan, about 6-7 inches (15cm) diameter, with a little oil, and wipe the oil round with kitchen paper to leave a thin film.

Put the pan on the hob and let it get hot, until you can see very hot. A drop of batter should set immediately.

Now for the fun. Carefully pour in some batter, not too much, and swirl it round quickly. Let it cook for a minute or two, until the underside

is set and browned. Keep shaking it, to prevent sticking. You might need to use a fish slice to set it free. When you’re ready, toss or flip it over,

and give the other side another minute or so to cook. Then tip the pancake on to a waiting warmed plate, squeeze over some lemon juice,

sprinkle generously with caster sugar, roll up and Mmmmmm. Next, please. Wipe the pan round with the oily kitchen paper (take care)

to reprime the surface, bring it back up to heat, and off you go again.

Phase 3:-    Date  15th February 2010

February 15, 2010

I tried to pull my blind up this morning and the weight of it was held by the break so Ray said lets buy a new one which meant a rush around

to go out.

As we had taken the dog we went to Tankerton slopes and was amazed that we had to walk through snow in places as I thought it had all gone.

It was very pleasant in the sunshine though and we did a round walk.

Then we went to the Whitstable and Tankerton Hospital (affectionately known as the Whit and Tank) as they have moved Rays hearing aid

batteries to there now instead of our local Doctors surgery.

B&Q was our next stop as they had our blind there but not the same colour so what do you do as it would be wrong to change all of them

 just because of colour. I Bought a beach one and hoped for the best.

Came home to lunch which was a cheese quiche and had a sleep then went and did a little bit of the garden as the sun was so nice.

After dinner Ray put my blind up

and it tones in with the other’s very nicely so all has ended well.

Dinner we had Quorn Sausages (which are different but do taste OK)and chips with mushrooms and green beans.

Phase 3:-    Date  14th February 2010

February 14, 2010

With all the snow on the ground and difficulty moving the Motorhome out we were very worried how this weekend would turn out,

we needn’t have worried because as soon as we hit the M2 motorway we realised the snow hadn’t even laid there and that is only 3 miles away–

how funny is that.

So we began to calm down and settle for the journey–except the Tom Tom wasn’t working as there was a fault so when we reached Clacket’s Lane

we went in and bought a new one as I hadn’t brought any directions with me and so I didn’t know where we were going.

I have come to rely on a Sat Nav to much.

We had a Breakfast lovely Bacon, Sausages, Tomatoes, Mushrooms and beans he!he! not very vegetarian was it.

The rest of the journey went well and we arrived early afternoon and settled in.

The dog enjoyed a walk and so did we all around Birdham a nice village with a local store and we met more MHF members doing the same walk.

Back home we settled down to a dinner and  an early night after watching a little Telly.

Saturday Louis woke me up and I went out for an early walk while Ray got up, when I returned we had breakfast.

We started to walk to EastWittering but we ran out of pavement so we waited for a bus then found we had almost walked it.

East Wittering is a place we had been to years ago and we recognised the camp site we had stayed at.

We walked to the sea front and along the beach and came back to pick the bus up to West Wittering but as it was cold in the wind we stayed

 on and the bus returned to Birdham.

We dumped the dog and went back to the bus stop and this time we went to Chichester which is a lovely City and we strolled around and then

 had lunch.

Of back home to the M/H and rested and then we got ready to go out for our Valentine Meal and waited for 7pm then off in Taxi’s.

It was a lovely Pub that was booked to take us,  by a quayside and the meal was very good. We are a noisy lot though when we get together

 but everyone enjoyed themselves and the evening went to quickly we were soon back into taxi’s and off back to the Campsite.

After a good nights sleep we got up had breakfast and everyone congregated

outside our

 M/Home with lots

of jovial fun going on as we gradually

said goodbye one by one to travel off to our homes etc, all agreeing that

 w

e had had

a wonderful time

and cant wait until we meet again.

We had a good journey home and the snow has all gone just leaving a bit at the edges of fields or by the roadside.

Well I’m back in doors now and I will be vegetarian again Promise

When we got in Ray’s appointment had arrived, Mar 3rd for his Cat Scan so we are back to reality.

Phase 3:-    Date  11th February 2010

 snow-snow-and-more-snow/

When we got up today I opened the blinds and there was so much snow coming down

and laying on

 top of all that had laid in the night.

The wind had blown it into a drift up the fence and up our shed.

Ray went out and cleared a path for the dog to have his morning Pee!!

I went out and helped as I couldn’t get to the dustbin. It was very powdery snow so easy to clear.

I heard that Operation Stack was in place as Folkstone had been hit bad as well so that was

hindering my

Motorhome friends that were off to Spain today.

.

Lunch was a cheese salad and then off into the cold outdoors with boots on to take the dog for a walk.

He went mad burying his head in the thick snow and then throwing and chasing the snow as if it was a ball.

When we got

back I

 I had to get up real early today as I had a 8.40am Blood appointment at the surgery in Whitstable, and I'm not used to rushing about in the morning.

We got there with plenty of time to spare and it seemed funny sitting in a empty waiting room you really feel like the need to whisper when talking.

I was called into the den of Dracula and the nurse completed the blood taking with ease, so off we went home to breakfast and a coffee.
